SURFACE
FINISHING OF STAINLESS STEEL
Surface finishing
is a large expenditure for most companies. Various abrasives and
polishing compounds are necessary in order to guarantee a good
quality image, especially for decorated surfaces.
Valuable
workpieces often become useless when operator errors cause damage
to the material.
Processing
Stainless Steel: The LP1503 Air or Electric Sanding/Polishing
Machine can be used to grind faulty parts (e.g. scratches). The
whole polished section can then be adjusted corresponding to the
original finish. Roller guides in the front and back of the machine
ensure even pressure on the abrasive. The machine has a 4"
wide face.
We recommend
the following operations:
1. Remove
scratches with a sanding flap wheel: 40 grit (Ref No. 250.496),
or 50 grit (Ref. No. 250.497)
2. The next
step is made with the sanding/polishing wheel, 80 grit (Ref. No.
250.515). This operation produces a mat finish corresponding to
grain standard 180.
3. If a mat
finish with a grain standard 250 is to be obtained, another operation
has to be added, that is with the sanding/polishing wheel, 180
grit (Ref. No. 250.516).
4. Should
the desired finish be light-brilliant, the stainless steel now
has to be worked with the fine grinding wheel. This is a soft
rubber polishing wheel made of rubber compound interspersed with
abrasive, 60 grit (Ref No. 250.525).
5. If mirror-bright
is required, another operation is necessary, i.e. with the cotton
buffing wheel (Ref No. 250.521) and a suitable buffing compound
(Ref No. 123.811).
Of course,
there are differences in stainless steel (VA - metal). Therefore,
this guide is only a suggested method and the customer has to
test by himself how he can obtain the required brilliance in the
best way.
The sanding/polishing
wheels, Fleece Mop Grinder (Ref. No. 250.515) are especially suitable
for dulling and finishing. For this reason we have included this
abrasive with the basic LP 1503. Also included are ten spacer
rings and a hex key.
The LP 1503
is the ideal surface finishing machine for many applications:
welds, graining, polishing, deburring, dulling, roughing and more.
The machine weighs only 8 Ibs. |
